Susan Gordanshekan is a German filmmaker of Iranian origins. After various internships and jobs in the film sector, she decided to study film at the University of Television and Film in Munich.
Over the years, she has made several documentaries and three short fiction films. Notably, her short fiction EISBLUMEN premiered at 61. BERLINALE, was screened at numerous films festivals worldwide and won several prizes. In 2013/14 Susan attended as one of six international filmmakers the 27th session of Cinéfondation Residence of Festival de Cannes where she developed her first feature film DIE DEFEKTE KATZE. In 2015 she took part at Berlinale Talents Training Programme.
DIE DEFEKTE KATZE / A DYSFUNCTIONAL CAT premiered at 68. Berlin International Film Festival in February 2018 and was screened at numerous international film festivals, such as the Shanghai International Film Festival. The Film was released in German Cinemas in October 2018. Susan Gordanshekan received for DIE DEFEKTE KATZE the German Director's Award METROPOLIS as best newcomer director.
In 2022, Gordanshekan shot two of four episodes of the miniseries FÜXE, which was created in co-production with ZDF-Das Kleine Fernsehspiel. FÜXE won the special prize for serial formats at the Hamburg Film Festival 2023 and was nominated for the Grimme-Prize 2024. Susan Gordanshekan ist currency working on her second feature film.

Since 2020 Susan is a jury member for national film funding of the federal ministry of culture and media ( Bundesministerium für Kultur und Medien).

Susan Gordanshekan ist eine deutsche Filmemacherin iranischer Herkunft. Nach verschiedenen Praktika und Jobs im Filmbereich, entschied sie sich für ein Filmstudium an der Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film in München.
Im Laufe des Studiums hat sie einen Dokumentarfilm und drei Kurzspielfilme gedreht. Insbesondere der Kurzspielfilm EISBLUMEN feierte Premiere auf der 61. BERLINALE, wurde auf zahlreichen Filmfestivals weltweit gezeigt und gewann mehrere Preise.
2013/14 nahm Susan als eine von sechs internationalen Filmemachern an der 27. Session der Cinéfondation Residence des Festival de Cannes teil, wo sie ihren ersten Spielfilm DIE DEFEKTE KATZE entwickelte. 2015 nahm sie an Berlinale Talents teil.
DIE DEFEKTE KATZE feierte 2018 auf den 68. Internationalen Filmfestspielen Berlin Premiere und wurde auf zahlreichen internationalen Filmfestivals gezeigt, z.B. das Shanghai International Film Festival. Der Film kam im Oktober 2018 in die deutschen Kinos. Susan Gordanshekan erhielt für DIE DEFEKTE KATZE den Deutschen Regiepreis METROPOLIS als beste Nachwuchsregisseurin vom Bundesverband Regie.
2022 drehte Gordanshekan zwei von vier Episoden der Miniserie FÜXE, die in Koproduktion mit ZDF- Das Kleine Fernsehspiel entstand. FÜXE gewann den Sonderpreis für serielle Formate auf dem Filmfest Hamburg 2023 und wurde für den Grimme-Preis 2024 nominiert. Zur Zeit arbeitet Susan Gordanshekan an ihrem zweiten Kinospielfilm.

Seit 2020 ist Susan Mitglied der Jury für die nationale Filmförderung des Bundesministeriums für Kultur und Medien.
